This picture I posted from a friend’s Facebook page seemed to get a lot of attention over the weekend, but I was most pleased with the bit of knowledge dropped by fiveoclockbot’s reblog:
I know this spot well, for it’s the bottom of a ghost lake, long ago drained to make way for brownstones. Lake Blaisdell used to be part of the chain of lakes and existed right around 22nd and Garfield and 22nd and Harriet. Look north up Harriet Avenue, south up Grand toward 24th, and west at Lyndale and 24th and you can see the old slopes of the lake. It was drained at the beginning of the 20th century to make way for the city’s expansion. But sometimes, the lake returns…
(via whereabout)
Glad that my house is beyond the banks of this ghost lake, and not in it!
